How to determine which type of speaker best suits your needs:
- In-Wall Speakers.
In-wall speakers can better recreate stereo and surround sound imaging than in-ceiling speakers
because of the way sound disperses horizontally from them in a room. Also, walls often provide
a more rigid platform on which to mount a speaker than do most ceilings. For these reasons, in-wall
speakers may often perform better than their in-ceiling equivalents.
In-wall speakers must be specifically designed to have shallow
rear enclosures and to fit between standard stud wall framework. In-wall speakers should be located
with their tweeter at ear height, equally spaced left and right about the main listening position and
any screens associated audio-video sources.
The Krix
Ecliptix is the most compact in-wall Krix speaker and is suitable for smaller home theatre and
multi-room audio applications in automated homes. This updated version of the Krix
Ecliptix now features an architectural
thin bezel and magnetically attached paintable grille. Like the original, the Ecliptix speaker is also voice-matched
to the Krix Hemispherix in-ceiling speaker,
so you can mix and match them in smaller home theatre applications.
The Krix
Symmetrix in-wall speaker is modelled on the highly regarded (but no longer available) Krix Tryptix on-wall speaker,
and may be used in high-quality compact home theatre applications, or as stereo or home automation
multi-room audio in-wall speakers. The Krix Symmetrix is also suitable for narrow walls with as little
as 70mm space behind the 10mm plaster.
The Krix
Scenix in-wall speaker is modelled on the award-winning Acoustix MK2 bookshelf speaker,
and are larger than the Krix Symmetrix. The Krix Scenix speakers may be used in high-end home theatre
applications, stereo or home automation multi-room audio in-wall speakers.
The flagship Krix in-wall speaker is the Krix
Epix. This 6-driver 3-way in-wall speaker is the custom installation version
of the award winning Krix Neuphonix
/ Epicentrix
floor standing and centre channel speakers. If you require an aesthetically pleasing
in-wall speaker but don't want to compromise on sound quality, then you should consider
using Krix Epix speakers.
- On-Wall Speakers.
If mounting a speaker in-wall is not a practical option (perhaps because you have solid
concrete walls or there are pipes, ducts or wiring behind the wall), then consider
compact high performance on-wall speakers. By
mounting the speaker on the surface of a plaster cavity wall, preferably directly into
wall stud timber using on-wall brackets, you reduce plaster vibration and
improve fidelity and imaging.
For rear surround speaker applications where you want sonically
seamless matching with front Krix floor standing or bookshelf speakers, then the on-wall Krix Dynamix speaker is
ideal for most home theatre rooms. The Dynamix is an on-wall version of the much acclaimed
and very dynamic Krix Equinox bookshelf
speaker. With an angled front baffle like the on-wall surround speakers Krix
use in commercial cinemas, the Dynamix sits flush against your rear wall on its included
wall brackets, directing surround sound downwards at 15 degrees to your listening
position.
For rear surround applications in larger home theatre rooms that
require even more power than the Krix Dynamix can deliver, you
should consider treating yourself with the Krix Phonix Extreme on-wall speaker.
- Bookshelf Speakers.
Krix bookshelf speakers are a great way to introduce yourself to the sound and appearance
that Krix achieves with beautifully designed and crafted timber speaker cabinets. Krix
bookshelf speakers may also be mounted on a wall or on a high quality floor stand with
great results, but they are also small enough to use on a shelf or desk and sound gorgeous.
Krix bookshelf speakers are suitable for high quality home theatre or stereo
applications, though the baby Krix Atomix
bookshelf speaker is so compact and inexpensive that you will want to enjoy
this delightful speaker in high-quality home automation multi-room
audio systems as well. Larger Krix bookshelf speakers include the much loved Krix Equinox Mk2 and
Krix
Acoustix Main speakers.
- Floor Standing Speakers.
Once you have experienced a Krix bookshelf speaker, you will want to go all the way and also
enjoy a more powerful full-range Krix floor-standing speaker. Choose from the compact Krix
Rhythmix and Krix Apex
speakers, the mid-size Krix Phoenix,
the stately Krix Harmonix,
or the awesome Krix
Neuphonix floor speaker, then sit back and enjoy.
While a floor standing speaker is more conspicuous than an
on-wall, in-wall, or in-ceiling speaker, when properly positioned a high quality Krix floor
standing speaker will reward you with superb quality sound.
- Centre Home Theatre Speakers.
You could possibly use any of the above floor-standing, bookshelf, on-wall, in-wall or
in-ceiling Krix speakers as the centre speaker in your home theatre if carefully matched
with the other front and rear home theatre speaker types. Krix does however offer a range
of bookshelf speakers that are specially engineered for centre channel operation and
perform better in this application than other speakers.
When you need to use a centre speaker in your home theatre (i.e.
when people will be viewing from off-centre seating positions) the centre speaker is
actually your most important home theatre speaker. Krix are one of the few speaker
manufacturers to recognise this and to design their centre home theatre speakers accordingly.
The drop-dead stand-out Krix centre home theatre speaker is the full-size Epicentrix.
The Krix Epicentrix
matches perfectly with the Krix
Neuphonix floor-standing speakers and is for people who want to enjoy an
outstanding home theatre experience. Krix also offer a range of more compact and
economical centre speakers that include the new Krix
Sonix, Krix
Graphix, and the Krix Vortex
centre speakers.
- Active Subwoofers.
Krix offer three accurate realistic no-nonsense active subwoofers to complete your home
theatre or stereo listening experience. All Krix active subwoofers with front-facing
drivers feature front-ported enclosures that are suitable for building into your home
theatre cabinets, with beautifully crafted timber cabinets and quality internal power
amplifiers. Choose from the the mid-size Krix Seismix 3 or Krix Tektonix, or
the full-size Krix Volcanix active
subwoofer. The Krix Tektonix and Krix Volcanix are premium quality active
subwoofers that also feature the advanced Class-D 450W RMS ICEpower® amplifier and power
supply module, and front-facing control panel and display.
If your room (or your wallet) can only accomodate a compact
active subwoofer, then the black Krix Seismix
Cube or the natural woodgrain finished Krix Seismix 1
are ideal. These two compact Krix subwoofers also feature down-facing drivers and ports,
making them more suitable for rooms with young children running around, and making them
look more like a coffee table.
- Outdoor Speakers.
Home automation multi-room audio hi-fi is great in outdoor areas when your relaxing or entertaining
friends, but places a whole new set of environmental requirements upon an speaker. Krix
have designed three outdoor speakers for Australian outdoor conditions. For on-wall
outdoor speakers, choose from the compact Krix Aquatix or
the larger more powerful Krix Tropix outdoor speaker.
If you need an outdoor under eave in-ceiling speaker, then choose the powerful
Krix Stratospherix AS or
the compact Krix Helix.
