What aspects of my home automation system can I reprogram myself? |
If you know what
you are doing (see warning below), and you have the necessary software and hardware, then you may
be able to successfully access and alter the programming for many aspects of your
C-Bus
Home Automation System yourself.
The aspects of your C-Bus home automation
that you may be able to re-program include the lights/scenes/fans/timers controlled by
each C-Bus
Wall Switch or C-Bus Passive Infra-Red
(PIR) occupancy sensor, plus the watering/lighting/appliance schedules and
scripted home automation logic and checklists in your C-Bus Touch Screen, C-Bus Wiser Home
Controller or C-Bus Pascal
Automation Controller (PAC).
TIP:
You may also alter scenes and schedules within your C-Bus Touch Screens
or Wiser Home Controller
directly from the user interface of these devices, without performing any home automation
repropramming. Such access may depend upon how your above C-Bus devices are currently programmed,
and what firmware they currrently have installed. |
|
What hardware and software do I need to reprogram my C-Bus Home
Automation System? |
- A Microsoft Windows computer with WiFi, or a spare wired LAN, USB or
9-pin serial RS232 port.
- A wireless WiFi LAN connection from your PC to your C-Bus Wiser Home
Controller; or
- A LAN cable from your PC to your C-Bus Wiser Home
Controller or C-Bus
Network Interface; or
- A USB cable from your PC to your C-Bus
Colour Spectrum or B&W MkII Touch Screen, Pascal
Automation Controller (PAC), or C-Bus USB PC interface;
or
- An RS232 serial cable from your PC to your C-Bus Serial PC interface,
B&W
MkI Touch Screen, or C-Bus Telephone Interface.
- Free C-Bus Toolkit
software for programming most of your C-Bus devices,
including Wall Switches,
Bus Couplers,
Auxiliary Input Units, General Input Units, Dimmers, Relays, PIRs, and
more. You may find this guide for connecting your PC to your C-Bus home automation system via Free C-Bus
Tookit software helpful.
- Free PICED software
for programming your C-Bus Touch Screens, Wiser Home Controller
and PAC
units.
- Free TICA software
for programming your C-Bus Telephone Interface.

WARNING.
You should attempt C-Bus
programming or firmware updating only if you have a thorough understanding of how C-Bus works
and of the requirements of the other systems with which your C-Bus system is interacting,
or if you closely follow assistance from an experienced C-Bus
Systems Integrator. Problems that you could cause include, but are not limited
to, the following:
(a) Some C-Bus programming changes or attempts to upgrade device firmware may render aspects of your
C-Bus system unusable, lead to unreliable C-Bus operation, or may even prevent your entire
C-Bus system from functioning at all. In this case you may need to pay for your C-Bus
Systems Integrator to call out and attempt to restore functionality to your
C-Bus system.
(b) Other third party components or systems with which your C-Bus is interacting
also have their own special control requirements which, if not adhered to, may result in
damage to these third party components. Such damage is normally not covered by the
third party equipment manufacturer's warranties.
Systems that you should not attempt to program or perform firmware updates on include
the following: Inner Range Security,
Mobotix IP cameras,
Linn Knekt Multi-room and LG Aria-24 phone systems. |
